Made up by Cathryn

There are 3 Words that define my style in terms of Bridal Makeup and Style:

Classic, Timeless and Elegant

You want to be able to look at your photos in 10, 20 and 30 years time and smile back at the image rather than seeing something very dated and of that time.

I am Cathryn Kerwin-Rawlinson and I own Made up by Cathryn, I have been a Makeup Artist now for over 8 years and in 2015 I won the County Brides Award for Best Bridal Makeup in the North West, with many weddings under my belt. I have an amazing kit full of makeup for all skin tones and skin types and the brands I use are: MAC, Illamasqua, Charlotte Tilbury, Laura Mercier, Nars, and I am trained to Master level in the art of Airbrush makeup using the brand Airbase.

I live an breath weddings and it really is my love and passion and I recently started a blog talking about makeup and past brides check www.madeupby.blogspot.com

Classic, Timeless and Elegant Bridal Makeup

So I got to thinking about my past brides, my bridal makeup and my style in general....  and I think there are three words that define my look and style:

Classic

Timeless

Elegant

When looking back on those pictures in 10, 20, 30 and 40 years time you want to smile and know that you look your very best on your day and you don't cringe because you went with a look that was very much of the time and it was just too extreme.

My thoughts on bridal makeup is that you can take a look from the era but don't take it to the extreme, and current trends would be heavy contour, extreme Strobing that the skin can look fairly plastic and heavy over-filled eyebrows.  Its keeping it clean and keeping it simple.

A Bride should always be radiant, and most of all extremely Elegant, so the makeup should enhance the brides inner beauty and style.

I look at all my bridal work with pride because each and every bride I have worked on I really like, from brides going for very natural, to brides slightly vintage in styling through to brides who have opted for high glamour, but each and every one of them exudes pure Classic, Timeless Elegance.

My Personal Style

So I got to thinking about Makeup Artists in general and then looking at the work they all do and realised many have personal style and this personal style certainly reflects in the work they do and I wanted to talk about my personal style.

I am a 38 years old and if honest I do not look it and I do have a little bit of help from time to time to delay those wrinkles.   I like to keep trendy and wear the latest style (within reason I don't want to look like mutton).  I have a very edgy haircut a bob with a very thick fringe in a chocolate brown shade but I occasionally add red/copper tones.

My go to makeup look has always been pretty much the same since I was a teenager.  I have very blue eyes and from an early age always knew they were my thing, and with having very blue eyes I know that adding dark colours to the eyes makes them look even bluer.  So I have always opted for chocolate brown shades with lots of black liner around the eye and into my waterline, sometimes on a night out I do add gold as again this is a lovely contrast to my eye colour.  I do not like clean looks on me, the smokier the better.  I think these days there is a lot of confusion to what a smoky eye is and for me its smudgy liner, and shadow that looks like dispersing smoke.

I wear foundation but I hate thick heavy foundation, I don't really suffer with acne or skin issues so for me a light to medium coverage is all I need as the only redness I have is around my nose and I like my freckles to show through.  I waiver between several foundations and I personally use MAC Studio Waterweight, its a new foundation to the range and I love it was blown away when I first used it as it looks like I have amazing skin.  I use Naked by Urban Decay and for a night out Illamasqua Skin Base.

I do not suit red lipstick at all, I have tried them all and I think they all look awful on me, so I keep my lips very simple using a nude lip gloss, I have several and not one particular favourite but the one I am using at the moment is by Laura Mercier.

The Power of Airbrush Make-up

I am trained in Airbrush Makeup application and the brand that I use is Airbase.  I also work for Airbase on a freelance basis teaching to college students who are studying makeup and beauty.  I am a Bridal Makeup Artist who covers the North West and North Wales www.madeupbycathryn.co.uk

The reason I use Airbase Make-up and I love the brand is because, it was designed for HD TV as the requirement for a finer make-up that looks like skin but perfect and the make-up is now used extensively on most of well known TV shows on the BBC or ITV.

However the make-up is also excellent for bridal, and the reason for this is because it is long wearing and requires no touch ups, so for a bride they can be assured that it will last from the moment I apply it, right through the day to the end of the partying at the night celebrations.  It is waterproof, so it will withstand the tears from the day and if its a hot day then will stay perfect even if the bride perspires.

So with it being able to withstand all that the day throws at it and it still stays perfect, it also looks amazing on camera and it can be customised to offer whatever coverage the bride requires so if the bride wants a fuller coverage and strong contour or she wants natural and almost a tinted moisturiser type of cover, then it can be done all depending on how I layer it.

Its camera friendly and does not cause flash back from the Photographers flash.  Many foundations contain SPF and this product and the Photographers flash do not mix well and when you see a bride with a whiter face than her body, this is because the makeup professional has not took this into consideration and what might look great to the naked eye does not always look that wonderful on the wedding photos.  So Airbase does not cause this.

It is amazing for Brides to be with skin issues, because it covers any redness, acne scaring and rosecea like nothing else because it is so super fine and covers in a seamless veil, so if you were to look close you would think it was perfect skin and not cakey makeup that people tend to use on skin issues.  The photo of the before and after is my lovely sister Jayne and she suffers from Rosecea and in her teens she had acne so her skin is very red and small pimples without make-up, but with the airbase you can not even tell she has it and the photo of the after is not filtered or altered in any way.

Airbase Makeup also covers tattoos, as tattoos are very trendy and very current, many of my brides have come to me with a tattoo that they love, however on the day they want it removing for whatever issue, the most common being Grandparents who would not approve.

So from reading this blog you can now see why I offer this service to my brides and why it really is the best choice for many of my brides.  However there are skin types I do not recommend it for and in my kit I have many other excellent base choices.
